Does My Car Need a Paint Correction?
Let’s find out!
What should you be looking for when considering a paint correction?
Under direct sunlight, look for swirl marks, scratches, and holograms. Swirl marks resemble spider webs, and holograms look like spiderwebs but are more wavy than swirl marks. If you have bug marks and/or bird droppings that are stuck on your vehicle, this is also a sign your vehicle needs a paint correction.
Noticing that your car has dull paint, oxidation, or chipped paint should be reason to see if a paint correction is right for you. You’ll find these issues on the parts of the car that get more direct sunlight, such as, the roof of the car, the hood, and the trunk.
If your vehicle gets egged, it is important to rinse as soon as possible. The egg clings to the clear coat of your car and can only be fixed by paint correction and polishing. Egg shells can also crack the paint causing permanent damage.
What is the process for paint correction?
When your car has heavy defects, this process is fairly simple – correct the clear coat. When we need to rid your vehicle of defects that are not permanent, we use compounds that have abrasives to break down the damaged clear coat and blend it back in. We then polish off your clear coat, because the correction could leave swirl marks. Polishing will refine the correction, as well as the clear coat. Unfortunately, we cannot just polish a vehicle, because it does not have enough abrasives to breakdown the build up and damaged portion of the clear coat.
Every clear coat is not the same, so every correction is different. Each car will require different materials to correct its problems, as they all work differently. There are also variables to that need to be taken into consideration when completing a paint correction – what towels does the customer use to wipe down their car, is the clear coat hard or soft, etc.?
